Diagnostic-First HVAC since 1972

We don't guess.
We test. Same values since 1972.

Most service calls in this industry start with a visual inspection and a guess. Tru72 starts with real measurements taken by certified technicians, so the recommendation matches the actual problem in your actual home. The diagnostic-first standard set when Larsell Mechanical Service opened in 1972 lives on through Tru72 Heating & Cooling, one customer, one system, one relationship at a time.

The Tru72 method

Every service call starts with a measurement. Then you decide.

Most HVAC contractors arrive, look at your system, and quote what they think is wrong. That's faster. It's also how homeowners end up paying for a $2,500 compressor replacement when the actual problem was a $50 capacitor.

Tru72 technicians run instrumented diagnostics on every call. Refrigerant pressures. Capacitor microfarads. Airflow static pressure. Temperature differential across the coil. We measure what the system is actually doing, identify the actual failing component, and walk you through what we found. You see the data. You see the cost. You see the options. Then you decide.

01
Repairs

The cheaper, correct fix.

A capacitor that measures 12 µF when the manufacturer spec is 35 µF is the failure, not a symptom. We catch the part that's actually broken instead of defaulting to the expensive, common guess.

"Looks like a bad compressor" is not a diagnosis. A pressure reading is.

What it means: you don't pay $2,500 for a compressor when the actual problem was a $50 part.

02
Replacements

Right-sized through Manual J.

We don't size your new system by "what was there before." We run a Manual J load calculation against your actual home: square footage, insulation, infiltration, climate zone. The right size system runs efficiently for 15+ years.

An oversized system short-cycles itself to an early grave. We won't sell you one.

What it means: consistent comfort, lower bills, and equipment that lasts the full service life instead of half of it.

03
Indoor Air Quality

Measured. Not assumed.

A purifier doesn't fix a humidity problem. A dehumidifier doesn't fix particulates. We measure room-by-room humidity, particulate, and allergen levels, then recommend the equipment the data actually calls for.

Match the solution to the measurement. Not to the discomfort.

What it means: you only pay for the equipment your home actually needs, not a generic "allergy package" bundle.

What we solve

Most homeowners describe a problem. We translate it into a system.

Something's wrong and I don't know what.

Diagnostic Repair

Furnace, heat pump, A/C, or ductless. We run instrumented diagnostics, find the actual failing component, and quote the actual repair. $72 service fee, credited to repair if you proceed.

Tested. Quoted. Fixed.

Replacement (Heat Pump, Furnace, A/C)

Manual J load calculation against your actual home. Right-sized equipment from Daikin or Goodman. Ductwork evaluated before contract. Energy Trust rebate filed at install.

Sized. Verified. Installed.

One room is never the right temperature.

Ductless Mini-Splits

Older homes, ADUs, additions, bonus rooms, converted attics. We install ductless systems sized to the actual zone they'll heat and cool, not to a manufacturer's catalog default. We also service mini-splits we didn't install, which most companies won't do.

Zone by zone. Calibrated.

Our story

Three generations.One way of working.

It started with a handshake. On April 16, 1972, Richard A. Larsell opened Larsell Mechanical Service in Albany, Oregon. The standard he set was simple and non-negotiable: honest work, technical excellence, stand behind your word. One customer, one system, one relationship at a time.

His son R. Dennis Larsell took over as president in 1989 and carried the company forward for more than three decades. Same values, deeper community roots. In 2025, after more than fifty years of family ownership, R. Dennis Larsell passed the company to another family who shared the same principles: the Oyler brothers, Tim, Matt, and CJ. The company evolved into Tru72 Heating & Cooling: a tribute to 1972, the year it all began, and a promise to stay true to the values that built it.

Frequently asked

About Tru72 Heating & Cooling.

What makes Tru72 different from other HVAC companies?

Tru72 is a diagnostic-first residential heating and cooling company with roots dating back to 1972. We test before we recommend, and measure before we quote. Every service call begins with real instruments (refrigerant gauges, capacitor meters, manometers, combustion analyzers) before we propose a repair. Every replacement is sized with a Manual J load calculation against the actual home, not the equipment that was there before. The standard hasn't changed since Richard A. Larsell opened the shop in 1972: honest work, technical excellence, stand behind your word.

Why does Tru72 start with diagnostics instead of a visual inspection?

Because guesses cost homeowners money. Most service calls in this industry start with a visual inspection and a quote based on what the symptom usually means. That guesswork pushes homeowners toward the expensive, common assumption instead of the actual, often smaller fix. Tru72 starts with measurements (pressures, temperatures, voltages, airflow, combustion) so the recommendation matches the data. You see the readings, you see the finding, you decide what gets repaired.

How much does a service call or diagnostic cost?

The Tru72 service-call fee is $72. That covers a real diagnostic by a certified technician, with measurements and a written finding. If you approve the repair, the $72 is credited toward the work, so you're not paying twice. Mission Ready Plan members (first responders, teachers, and military) pay $39.

What should I expect during my first Tru72 appointment?

A certified Tru72 technician arrives in a marked truck and walks the system with you first, so the conversation starts with what you're experiencing. Then the diagnostic runs on real instruments: refrigerant pressures and temperatures, electrical readings on motors and capacitors, airflow and static pressure on ductwork, combustion analysis on gas appliances. When the data tells us where the real problem is, we explain the finding in plain English, write up the repair options with prices, and you decide what to do next. No upsell pressure. No "while we're here" add-ons that weren't measured.

How quickly can Tru72 come out?

Same-day and next-day appointments are available across most of our service area when you call before 2 p.m. For genuine emergencies, no heat in winter, no cooling during a heat advisory, gas smell, carbon monoxide alarm, we dispatch a real technician 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The phone is answered any hour by a real person.

How do I find the Tru72 location that serves my area?

Choose your local Tru72 from the Locations section on this page. Each location page lists the cities and neighborhoods served, the local crew, applicable rebates, and how to schedule. If you're not sure which location covers your address, call (541) 926-2321 and the dispatcher will route you to the right team.
